UNC study: shape, not just size,
impacts effectiveness of emerging nanomedicine therapies
-
August 4, 2008 |
|
In the budding field
of nanotechnology, scientists already know that size does
matter.
But now, researchers at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill have shown that shape matters even more — a
finding that could lead to new and more effective methods
for treating cancer and other diseases, from diabetes and

Article in LT sheds light on
future challenges in the nano food and packaging sector
-
July 28th, 2008 |
|
Companies in the food and packaging sector have long
recognized the potential of nanoparticles for the extension
of the shelf life of perishable products. The antimicrobial
properties displayed e.g. by nano silver can be integrated
in a variety of packaging devices. If these substances are
contained within the matrix of the packaging and therefore
immobilised, they do not represent a health risk to
consumers. Nano Food and Packaging >> |

Nanomaterials can move up
the food chain -
July 21, 2008 |
|
The potential environmental risks of
nanomaterials have been a central argument for regulating
the nanotechnology sector. New research suggests that
engineered nanomaterials can be transferred from single
celled organisms in the lowest levels of the food chain, to
higher, multi-celled organisms.
